Keysville was founded back in the late 1700's. After the sawmill industry left, and
eventually the railroad became defunct and the schools consolidated and moved away, Keysville became desolate, disorganized and run down. A school teacher by the name of Emma Gresham had a vision, a lot of drive and some organizational skills, made up her mind to resurrect this town from the depths of despair. With unmatched zeal, a few friends in high places, she pulled it off and she brought Keysville back to life in 1988. Mayor Gresham grew weary after 14 years of rebuilding the infrastructure, government and attitudes, she turned the reins of management over to Mayor Maggie B. Cartwright. Mayor Cartwright grabbed this raging bull, and by using drastic cost cutting measures, had been able over two terms, to keep the doors open and the phones ringing. Mrs. Cartwright retired after serving her time. Keysville's newly elected mayor, Linda Wilkes plans to take Keysville to the next level. Keysville still has not reached its full potential, but the ground-work has been laid, the gates are open and the citizens are ready to strive on to victory. |
